The Greg Garrett Scholarship grants PHTA members in the builder or service sector $5,000 for PHTA educational or certification fees to increase professionalism and provide an opportunity for continuing education. This award recognizes an individual employed in the recreational water industry who shows extraordinary desire in furthering their career through education.

This scholarship is awarded by the PHTA Recreational Water and Air Quality Committee (RWAQC), in memory of a former member, Greg Garrett, who dedicated 45 years to the industry and served in many leadership roles in the PHTA Recreational Water Quality Committee (now RWAQC), Builders Council, and Standard Writing Committees. He held the highest honor within PHTA as an Industry Fellow and was a great advocate for education and standards. His enthusiasm was shared at committee meetings and all the places he traveled around the country to teach for various trade organizations.
About Greg Garrett
Gregory Clay Garrett was a longtime professional in the swimming pool industry, principally in the construction trades involving concrete, plaster, and other cementitious materials. He was the president and owner of Applied Materials Technologies (AMT). A past Vice Chairman of the National Plasterers Council, he also served as a Director of Technical Services for the organization. He was a voting member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Committee 524 Plastering. Garrett was a strong advocate for pool and hot tub education and taught between 40 and 50 seminars per year at national trade shows and regional venues. In addition, he helped co-launch the Pool Chemistry Certification—Residential, the first chemistry course specifically for residential pool professionals.
