Member Profile: Wendy Purser

  1. How long have you been a member of PHTA?
Since 1975 or earlier beginning with our family business. Was membership chair in 1979 for NC Chapter as my earliest volunteer position.

  2. Why did you join PHTA?
Best way to network and learn about current trends and events in our industry.

  3. What committee/council/chapter do you currently volunteer with?
I volunteer with the Retail Council and whenever Jennifer Hatfield needs my help.

  4. What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
The people I meet! Also being able help others entering our industry.

  5. What is your current occupation? How long have you been in the pool and hot tub industry?
I currently have a consulting company. I perform inspections, teach CPO classes, help people with service issues, and basically anything pool. I’ve received wages for 49 years.  I went on all my dad's pool calls for 5 years before that.

  6. What do you love most about the pool and hot tub industry?
It’s blue and that’s my favorite color. Relaxing by water with a cold one is actually my hobby. My fellow sun worshippers and I call the time of 4-7pm the bronzing hours.

  7. How do you define success?
When employees remain in touch long after they leave my employ. Or when you can make it through the winter without a second job.

  8. Who inspires you?
Connie Sue Centrella. She always smiles, works hard, and makes it fun.

  9. If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose? Why?
Ray Cronise because he thinks outside the box and he personally knows Billy Gibbons.

  10.  What’s one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month?
That if you have a pump with not enough straight pipe between a 90-degree elbow and the pump suction port and a re-plumb is not an option, you can step up the 90 elbow to the next size and it will help to flatten the water sooner. Credit to Mike Childress at Pentair.

  11. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
I worked as a lighting director for a stage lighting company and for local bands for 40 years. Yes, I worked 8 days a week.

  12. What’s the last book you read?
The Gospel According to Luke by Steve Lukather (my fav)

  13. What’s the first concert you ever attended?
    Peter Frampton

  14. If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Cheese Grits, fried chicken tenders, and salad with Ranch Dressing (the good kind)
