Member Profile: Ken Gregory

  1. How long have you been a member of PHTA?
I have been in the swimming pool business since 1975. It first it was the NSPI, then APSP, and now PHTA. That would be 46 years.

  2. Why did you join PHTA?
I think everyone in this industry should be a member, because the work that the PHTA volunteers accomplish aids all of the industry. If you are not a member and not paying dues and volunteering your time, you are not paying your fair share, as you benefit from the work of others.

  3. What committee/council/chapter do you currently volunteer with?
I work for Pentair and therefore a manufacture representative. I am on numerous committees and councils. I am on the Joint Committee for NSF, Member of the 1, 2, 5, 7, 15, and 16 Standard Writing Committees. I am a Co-Chair of the Technical Committee, I serve on the Commercial Builders Council, and am a member of the RWQC Committee, as a few examples.

  4. What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
Helping to make our industry better.

  5. What is your current occupation? How long have you been in the pool and hot tub industry?
I am currently the Compliance and Safety Manager for Pentair and I have been in the business for 46 years.

  6. What do you love most about the pool and hot tub industry?
    The people.

  7. How do you define success?
By always improving yourself and keeping current in a fast-changing industry.

  8. Who inspires you?
    My wife, Alison.

  9. If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose? Why?
I have had many mentors over the years and most people would not even know who they were. But the one man that stands out above the rest is Karl Fyrkman.

  10. Why did you join PHTA?
To be a part to the industry and to give back.

  11. What’s one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month?
That artificial lagoons are going to be a part of our industry and we need to address their needs.

  12. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
That I am a long-time pilot. As a pilot, I learned that takeoffs are optional but landing are mandatory.

  13. What’s the last book you read?
    EPA Manual on Ultra Filtration

  14. What’s the first concert you ever attended?
    Beach Boys

  15. If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Butter Steak Sandwiches with Castle Sauce. Only if you were from Greensboro, NC, would you know what that is.
