POOL & HOT TUB ALLIANCE WELCOMES THIRD ROUND OF PUBLIC COMMENTS ON REVISIONS TO PHTA-5 STANDARD FOR RESIDENTIAL INGROUND SWIMMING POOLS
(Alexandria, Va.) — The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA), the trade association representing the swimming pool, hot tub, and spa industry, is inviting a third round of public review and comments on revisions to the ANSI/APSP/ICC-5 2011 (R2022) American National Standard for Residential Inground Swimming Pools. The standard in development will be the PHTA/ICC-5 Standard for Residential Inground Swimming Pools. Public review is a fundamental part of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards consensus development process.
This third round is a 30-day public review, and comments are limited to the revisions printed in the January 17, 2025, edition of the ANSI Standards Action newsletter, including changes to Section 9.1.3 on turnover and water clarity and Section 12 on sanitizing equipment and chemical feed systems. These revisions are available for review on the PHTA website.
These latest revisions were made after the second round of public comment held in November 2024 and incorporate feedback from the PHTA Recreational Water and Air Quality Committee (RWAQC) and the PHTA Standards Consensus Committee (SCC), as well as individuals who submitted public comments.
The PHTA/ICC-5 standard applies to permanently installed residential inground swimming pools intended for noncommercial use as a swimming pool by not more than three owner families and their guests and exceeding 24 in (61 cm) in water depth. The objective of this standard is to provide recommended minimum guidelines for the design, equipment, installation, and use of residential inground swimming pools.
PHTA invites all pool, spa, and hot tub professionals, as well as non-industry members, to review the revisions printed in Standards Action and submit comments for consideration. The ANSI public review announcement on the required 30-day public review period for the PHTA-5 standard was published in Standards Action on January 17, 2025. All public review comments are due by February 16, 2025.
For more information on the draft standard, please visit the PHTA-5 webpage, email standards@phta.org, or call (703) 838-0083.
