As families converge on aquatic centers, pools, splash pads, waterparks, and open bodies of water for recreational water activities this Memorial Day weekend, it is vital to ensure safety is a priority for all people. The National Water Safety Month campaign supporters offer six important tips and reminders for parents and caregivers about safer water practices.

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) is pleased to announce the publication of the ANSI/PHTA/ICC-10 2021 American National Standard for Elevated Pools, Spas and Other Aquatic Venues Integrated into a Building or Structure. PHTA-10 can now be purchased from the PHTA Online Store.

The National Water Safety Coalition, led by American Red Cross, National Recreation and Park Association, Pool & Hot Tub Alliance and World Waterpark Association, is celebrating its 19th annual National Water Safety Month (NWSM) this May. With support from water safety organizations across the country, the Coalition raises awareness about water safety and highlights the importance of public education regarding safer practices for kids and adults in and around water.

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) has issued a call for participation on the PHTA-16 Standard Writing Committee (SWC) to develop a revision of the ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017 American National Standard for Suction Outlet Fitting Assemblies (SOFA) for Use in Pools, Spas and Hot Tubs that is the Drain Cover Standard referenced in the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGBA).

Swimming pool and spa builders celebrated the passage of legislation that would establish a statewide building code for the construction of new swimming pools and spas in Maryland. House Bill 303, sponsored by Delegate Dana Stein (District 11, Baltimore County) and Senator Cory McCray (District 45, Baltimore City), requires Maryland to use the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) as the new minimum standard moving forward for building swimming pools and spas in the State.

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) is inviting public review and comments on a new PHTA/ICC-2 Standard for Public Pool and Spa Operations and Maintenance. Public review is an important part of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards consensus development process.
